Community Radio

In 2009 more than 8 million people were able to tune into Community Radio stations reports Ofcom and with over 200 community stations now broadcasting across the UK and demand for licenses remains high.

These not-for-profit radio stations cover small geographical areas and each typically provides 81 hours of original and distinctive output a week, mostly locally produced.

Community radio licensing was introduced by Ofcom and the first license was awarded in March 2005 with the first station launched in that year.

Over the years I have been actively involved in a number of roles within radio and currently involved with community radio at Deben Radio CIC and Laid Back Radio.
